In disengagement work, civil society organisations repeatedly have to deal with situations that require (in-house) threat management. When dealing with dangerous cases, the aim is not only to avoid endangering the public, but also to protect clients and ensure the self-protection of advisers in the specific counselling situation.
These situations are not commonplace in civil society disengagement work, but they require quick and well-considered action. Early recognition and intervention can prevent or contain an escalation of violence in situations where there is a concrete danger to clients, advisers or uninvolved third parties.
